Logan Trevor Thomas made his arrival on March 9, 2012 at 12:49 a.m. He weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces, was 20.5 inches long and absolutely perfect! We chose the middle name Trevor after Tyson's brother who passed away. We think he is the cutest, best baby ever (except for at night). Besides a few struggles with learning how to breastfeed at first, he has been doing really well! He has his 2 week appointment on Thursday and we will see how his weight is then. At his last appointment he weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces. He is growing everyday and it amazes me how much he has already changed since he was first born. Sometimes I look at him and think wow I am his mom. It's a crazy feeling, but something I wouldn't change for the world. Tyson and I couldn't be happier! Take a look at this cutie!
Now for the delivery story, kind of long so don't read if you don't want to :). Up until his birth, I hadn't really been having major contractions. Sometimes they would be noticeable but for the most part nothing major. Well I had my doctor's appointment on Wednesday the 7th and I was 2 cm dilated and 75-80% effaced and my doctor said he wouldn't be surprised if it happened within the next few days, but I could also be in to see him the next week with nothing happening. I didn't want to get my hopes up and then be disappointed so I kept telling myself it wouldn't happen in the next few days. That night I started having more noticeable contractions but then throughout the night they went away. I went to work the next day with nothing. After work, I had planned on going visiting teaching and both appointments fell through. I was close to Tyson's work and I didn't want to go back home and then drive back to get him in about an hour so I decided I would wonder around Target to pass the time. I was talking to my mom on the phone while in the Target parking lot and I had two contractions, stronger then I had ever felt before. I told my mom and she said to not let my water break while I was in Target. I laughed and told her it wouldn't happen. Well, I got off the phone and started walking into Target. Right before I got to the front doors, my water broke, and it wasn't just a trickle either, it was a huge gush. I'm sure everyone that saw me thought I peed my pants. (this was around 4:20 p.m.) So I turned right around, got in the car and drove across the street to Tyson's work and got him. Unfortunately, we had left the overnight bag at home so we went home, got it and then headed to the hospital. We got settled into the hospital room around 5:00 and my contractions were already starting to get stronger. When they first checked me I was still 2 cm dilated and 100% effaced. I spent the next 2 hours walking around and bouncing on the birthing ball. When I was checked again I was 4cm and luckily didn't have to get any pitocin. Once again I walked around, bounced on the ball and tried to relax in the jetted tub. While I was in the tub, the contractions were getting extremely strong and I didn't think I could go much longer without some IV pain meds or an epidural. My nurse checked me and I was between 7 and 8 cm dilated. I asked for the epidural and my nurse got me started on IV fluids. She asked if I was going to be mad if I didn't get the epidural in time because of how quickly things were moving.Which I wouldn't have been, but I am sooo glad I got the epidural haha. She gave me some IV pain meds which helped for about 15 minutes. I got the epidural when I was between 8 and 9 cm. At first it was only working on my left side, which was really weird, but thankfully we got it to work on the right as well. A half hour after the epidural was placed I was 10 cm dilated and 100% effaced. My nurse wanted to try some practice pushes before she called the doc and after one practice push she told me to stop and she was calling the doc. We waited 15 minutes for the doctor to get there and a half hour of pushing later and he was here! I'm grateful everything went well and that I was lucky enough to have a shorter labor. Also shout out to my nurse Stacy and my doctor. Stacy was so awesome and Logan was born on her birthday! My doctor wasn't on call that night, but came in anyway just to deliver my baby, how awesome is that?! Tyson and I are so grateful for the opportunity to raise Logan and we love him so much already!
Sorry for the long post, but this is sort of my journal!
You would break your water going into Target. I'm glad all went well and thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteGreat job mama! So happy for you!
So glad he is here! Wish I could see the pics you uploaded for some reason they don't want to show up for me! So happy everything went well. He was much nicer than Karston was to me! Love and miss you all!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah the pics didn't show for me either, just exclamation points but I'm sure he's adorable!! I'm glad everything went well, and I thought it was that much funnier that you had just told your mom like 'Don't worry, everything's fine, nothing's going to happen' and then your water breaks. There's life for ya. Congratulations!! His birthday is exactly one week before mine, btw. Nice timing. :)
